The Applied Bayesian Statistics summer school has been organised since 2004 by

Istituto di Matematica Applicata e Tecnologie Informatiche, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche
Dipartimento di Economia Politica e Metodi Quantitativi, Università di Pavia
  • The school aims to present state-of-the-art Bayesian applications, inviting leading experts in their field. Each year a different topic is chosen. Past editions were devoted to Gene Expression Genomics, Decision Modelling in Health Care, Spatial Data in Environmental and Health Sciences and Bayesian Methods and Econometrics.

The school is open not only to post-docs and students in Statistics, but also to researchers (not necessarily from academia) from different fields, with an interest in statistical applications. Although a concise introduction to Bayesian methods is provided each year, a basic knowledge of statistical methods is advisable.

The school makes use of lectures, practical sessions, software demonstrations, informal discussion sessions and presentations of research projects by school participants.

The topic chosen for the 2008 school is Bayesian Decision Problems in Biostatistics and Clinical Trials

The lecturer will be Peter Mueller, Department of Biostatistics,The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA.

He will be assisted by Luca La Rocca (University of Modena and Reggio, Italy).

The 2008 school will be held at Centro Congressi Panorama, in Trento, close to the Italian Alps. The Centro Congressi is a recently renovated building located on a rocky spur at about 560 meters above sea level overlooking the city of Trento, in the northeastern Italian Alps. The place is quiet, yet very close to the town center, which can be reached also via cable car.

Please note that the number of available seats is limited.

The school will start on Monday, June, 9th, at 9.00 and it will end on Friday, June, 13th, at 13.00. Welcome cocktail and farewell dinner are planned on June, 9th and 12th, respectively. Participants will have a free afternoon on Wednesday, June, 11th.

    The registration fees are:

  • EUR 250 for students and postdocs
  • EUR 420 for people from academic and non-profit organisations
Full time employees of Italian public administrations (e.g. universities, CNR, ASL, etc.), who can claim VAT exemption according to the current Italian laws, will pay 350 euros (they need to ask for it in the registration form)
  • EUR 750 for all the others
  • including teaching materials and welcome cocktail. The social dinner will cost an extra 50 euros.

A 50 euros late registration fee will apply after April, 15th, 2008.

Meals, snacks and drinks are available at the Centro Congressi and they are the participants' responsibility.
