Research activities concern health, climate, transportation and Factory of the Future.

Participant to the project INTEGRATE - INnovazioni TEcnologiche per una Gestione Razionale del Tessuto Edilizio (Framework agreement "Regione Lombardia-CNR"; 2013-2015)
Partners: CNR-ITC, CNR-IENI, CNR-IRSA, CNR-CERIS
The project aims at bringing together technological development, research and monitoring activities for urban areas in order to identify critical situations concerning outdoor environmental quality, air quality, decrease of green areas, overheating with respect to rural areas, and high energy consumption.

Scientific responsible for the project A web-based system for real-time Monitoring and Decision Making for Integrated Vineyard Management (MODEM_IVM; FP7 reference number: 262059) (2011-2012).
Partners: HORTA SRL., Centro Ricerche Produzioni Animali - C.R.P.A. SPA.,Galtel Proyectos y Desarrollos SL., Société de Distribution de Materiel Electronique, Universidad de la Rioja, Universidade de Tras-os-Montes e Alto Duro, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
The aim of the MoDeM_IVM project is to develop a new, interactive, web-based Decision Support System (DSS) for integrated management of the vineyard. Research is mainly addressed to: i) develop and integrate in a single system automatic sensors and hand-held devices for monitoring all the vineyard components; ii) develop mathematical models for the key aspects of the vineyard management; iii) define the best options for managing the vineyard according to the Integrated Production and bring these options into practical guidelines; iv) optimise decision making based on a cost-benefit analysis that also considers environmental impacts; v) develop the web-based DSS that: receives real-time input data from the vineyard; uses data for calculating optimised decision supports; shows the decision supports in a clear way.

Scientific responsible for the project Impatti dei cambiamenti climatici sulle produzioni agricole: strategie di adattamento ai processi di desertificazione nelle aree mediterranee (Crop yield and climate change impacts on agriculture: adaptation strategies to desertification processes in the Mediterranean areas). Funded by: Milano per la tutela della Biodiversità 2008, (2010-2011).
Partners: CNR-IBIMET (Sassari), Centre Régional de la Recherche Agronomique de Settat (Marocco)
Cooperation progect aiming at (i) the developpment of tools and methodologies for the assessment of climate change in the Mediterranean area; (ii) the developpment of tools and methodologies for the assessment of climate change impacts on agriculture in Mediterranean areas at desertification risk; (iii) determining the most suitable mitigation and adaptation strategies, economically and socially sustainable, able to reduce and oppose the negative effects of climate change.

Workshop on Biodiversity in Agroecosystems

Scientific responsible for IMATI-CNR whitin the agreement between the Sardinian Environmental Protection Agency (ARPAS) and IMATI CNR concerning the project PROTERINA-C Un sistema di previsione e prevenzione dell'impatto della variabilità delle condizioni climatiche sulla variabilità del rischio per l'ambiente vegetato ed urbano. (PROTERINA-C: A system for the forecast and the prevention of the impact of the variability of the climatic conditions on the risk for the natural and urbanized environment). Funded by: EU - Programma Operativo di Cooperazione Transfrontaliera Italia-Francia "Marittimo". (2009-2010).
PROTERINA-C will focus on issues linked to climatic change and its impacts on natural and anthropized environment, with special attention to hazard conditions induced by these changes. PROTERINA-C involves activities related to deepen the knowledge and to develop models for evaluating forest fires hazard in Liguria, Corsica and Sardinia, in connection to climate variability.
The agreement between ARPAS and CNR-IMATI concerns the part of the project aiming at studying the Impacts of the variability of climatic conditions: (i) Analysis on annual and inter-annual variability of temperatures and precipitations; (ii) Identification of possible impacts of climate change on vegetation, urban areas and agriculture (iii) Calibration of phenological and phytopathological models.

Participant to the project Por-Calabria 2000-2006: Pericolosità legata ai fenomeni di intensa erosione idrica areale e lineare (Risks due to intense hydric erosion, linear and areal). Funded by: Regione Calabria, (2009-2010)
Partners: CNR-IRPI, Dipartimento di Ingegneria e Tecnologie Agro-forestali - Università di Palermo, CNR- I.S.A.Fo.M
The project aims at (i) providing a climatic characterization of the study area (Calabria region) based on the hydric erosion risk by applying probabilistic and statistical methods; (ii) defining the areas characterized by rill or gully erosion, and the areas characterized by high soil dispersibility and piping. Different scenarios coming from several combiations of physical factors influencing erosion will be studied.

Participant to the Project: 06/01-CNR Advanced techniques of Bayesian decision making in complex systems. Funded by: CNR and Academy of Science of the Czech Republic (2004-2006, 2007-2009).
Partner: Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA, Prague).
The main common interest is about complex systems analyzed in a Bayesian context, namely the formalization of models, individual and group experts' opinions, computational aspects. A probabilistic model is considered that describes the behavior of many - as typical for complex systems - random, observable quantities by means of one probability distribution depending upon an unknown multidimensional parameter. The information and/or the opinions available on the parameter are expressed by means of a probability distribution, said prior, that it is updated in the light of the collected observations, by means of the Bayes theorem, in the posterior distribution, a key instrument in forecasting and inferencing.
